Is it a career or is it something

bigger?

Story time : the past 20-ish years

Started from the bottom
2007
Everyone starts somewhere.
I began my career in the logistics industry by accepting an entry-level opportunity with a well-known company that, while established, was behind the times in terms of technology and efficiency. Seeing untapped potential, I took on more responsibility than my customer service role required, assisting in sales engagements and naturally stepping into the role of the in-house “IT guy,” despite the company outsourcing all technology services. Within a year, while still performing my primary job, I led efforts to bring IT services in-house—saving the company over $200,000 annually. My work spanned networking, hardware management, database oversight, and report building. Basically, if something needed done, I would do whatever that something was.

We're Getting Somewhere
2009
Somebody's got to do it. Might as well be me.
Recognizing that the company’s outdated applications were limiting growth, I helped identify a small development firm to build a new transportation management system from the ground up. Taking on the role of project manager, I worked with teams across sales, operations, and accounting to design a system that better served the business. Managing remote development teams in Florida and India, I successfully led the two-year project to completion, increasing efficiency and driving profit margins from 10% to 15% almost overnight.

My time to shine?
2011
Who is in charge here?
Impressed by my leadership, the company’s owner promoted me into a people leadership role to oversee operational teams handling incoming work and brokerage operations. Through process and staffing improvements, we improved service level agreement (SLA) performance by 75%, reducing a four-day workflow to just one day. Around this time, a private equity firm became involved in the business, and I played a key role in facilitating the company’s sale and subsequent merger. As the sole liaison—aside from the owner—I navigated the complexities of the acquisition, helping the company double their value, over the six years there.

New surroundings.
2015
I like it here.
Following the sale, I secured a new office space, ensured business continuity, and then relocated to corporate headquarters in St. Louis. There, I took on the role of Technology Integration Manager, working closely with the VP of Technology to merge the acquired business into the parent company. I oversaw development and tech support teams, serving as the primary link between technology and the business. One of my most impactful initiatives was creating a dynamic pricing engine that allowed for real-time rate adjustments, increasing profit margins by an additional 5%. This pricing model remains in use today.

Time to GROW!
2017
Can't stop now.
After the successful implementation of this system, the executive team saw another gap to fill, leading me to transition into the role of Pricing Manager. In this position, I developed pricing strategies based on market trends and collaborated with major OEM clients to secure contracts ranging from $500K to over $1 million in revenue. My leadership contributed to the company’s continued growth under private equity ownership, culminating in a sale valued at roughly 10x that of the last sale.

New surroundings, part 2.
2018
Business and BBQ.
As the business expanded, new acquisition opportunities emerged. With two quick business acquisitions came the challenge of integrating them seamlessly. Relocating once again—this time to Kansas City—I led the effort to incorporate two new service lines, ensuring proper training and project management while overseeing the construction of a new office space to support the company’s growth.

A new kind of leadership.
2019
The set up for what's next.
After the successful integrations, a new bottleneck developed between the operational units in Kansas City and the technology teams. To bridge the gap, I stepped into an interim Director of Business Technology role, leading both the development and IT support teams while ensuring that business needs were met efficiently. Once a permanent director was found, I took on yet another major initiative—guiding the company’s transition from waterfall development to Agile methodologies. Starting from scratch, I trained and mentored development teams, growing a team of Scrum Masters and driving an Agile transformation across the organization.

TLDR
2025
That was too much to read, so let me summarize.
Throughout my career, I have maintained a high-level role within both technology and business operations, working alongside executives, product teams, and technology leaders to drive efficiency and growth. My contributions have been instrumental in scaling the company to its most recent valuation of 8-10x what it was, a mere 7-8 years ago.

What's next?
